Description

Wild by Ele Fountain explores the profound journey of a young boy grappling with the complexities of grief and personal transformation. Following the death of his father, Jack finds himself spiralling into a world of rebellion, skipping school and associating with a troubling crowd. His mother, an environmental anthropologist, remains largely unaware of his struggles, consumed by her work.

The Plot

In an effort to reconnect and address Jack's troubling behaviour, his mother proposes a trip to the rainforest. What begins as a chance for bonding quickly evolves into an intense survival experience. As they delve deeper into the heart of the jungle, Jack encounters unexpected challenges and dangers that force him to confront his inner turmoil.

  • Themes of grief and resilience are intricately woven throughout the narrative.
  • The vivid depiction of the rainforest serves as both a backdrop and a character in its own right, highlighting the beauty and peril of nature.
  • Jack's journey reflects a universal struggle for identity and understanding in the face of loss.
“A gripping tale of survival, self-discovery, and the healing power of nature.”

Readers who appreciated Fountain's previous works or those who enjoy coming-of-age stories infused with environmental themes will find Wild a compelling addition to their collection. The prose is rich and evocative, drawing readers into Jack's emotional landscape while also celebrating the wonders of the natural world.
