Description

The Clockwork Crow is a captivating gothic tale by Catherine Fisher, set against the enchanting backdrop of snowy Wales. The story follows Seren Rees, an orphan who embarks on a journey to her new home, only to be interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious package from a frightened stranger. This unanticipated event sets off a chain of events that leads Seren into the heart of a frost-covered Victorian mansion, where ominous secrets linger within the shadows.

The Plot

As Seren settles into her new surroundings, she uncovers the dark history of the Family that must not be spoken of. With the help of a magical crow, she becomes determined to unveil the truth behind the enigmatic parcel and to locate her missing friend, Tom. The narrative intertwines elements of magical realism with themes of family, belonging, and the struggle against dark forces.

Themes

  • Family and Belonging: The quest for connection and understanding in the face of isolation.
  • Secrets and Mysteries: The uncovering of hidden truths that shape identities and destinies.
  • Magical Realism: The use of fantastical elements to explore deeper emotional truths.
"A beautifully woven tale that captures the essence of hope amidst darkness."

Fans of Fisher’s previous works, as well as readers who enjoy atmospheric narratives akin to The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern or The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson, will find themselves enchanted by this gothic Christmas story.
